Abstract

The utilization of renewable energy has become a crucial focus in the Government's program to address the challenges of energy sustainability. Solar energy stands out as a potential source of renewable energy in Indonesia and has been widely utilized in both society and industry. One of its applications is in water pumps, which traditionally relied on electricity from the national grid (PLN) or fossil fuels. To optimize the use of solar energy in water pumps, development has been carried out by implementing a remote switch control wireless system to regulate its on/off operations. The working principle involves the pump being powered by sunlight, with the flow rate and effectiveness measured. The resilience of solar-powered water pumps utilizing remote switch control wireless systems requires testing to determine the optimal conditions. Hence, this research aims to investigate the effectiveness and flow rate of solar-powered water pumps. The research methodology employed is experimental, with variables measuring water flow, pump head, and pump efficiency. The testing was conducted through 15 trial runs to observe the data distribution pattern. The research results lead to several conclusions. Firstly, the efficiency of solar-powered water pumps with wireless remote control is approximately 44.925%, reflecting a commendable conversion rate of solar energy into mechanical power. Although the efficiency is below 50%, this figure is considered satisfactory given the conditions of variation and reliability of the pump in pumping substantial water volumes. Secondly, the average water flow pumped is 24.64 liters, demonstrating the success of this technology in meeting the water needs of households and agriculture. The identification of potential obstacles provides deeper insights. Challenges ranging from telecommunication signals to socialization can be overcome through collaboration with relevant parties and a participatory approach. The active participation of the Salebu Village community is the primary focus of this implementation, and their involvement is key to long-term success.
